Learn how to respond when an accident occurs. You could save a life.
The purpose of the STOP THE BLEED® campaign is to make our nation more resilient by better preparing the public to save lives if people nearby are severely bleeding. The person next to a bleeding victim may be the one who’s most likely to save him or her.
Minutes count! Someone who is severely bleeding can bleed to death in as little as 5 minutes. That’s why bleeding control—keeping the blood inside the body—is the purpose of STOP THE BLEED® training.
Preparation is being done by raising awareness and teaching people how to learn three quick actions to control serious bleeding.
- Apply pressure with your hands
- Apply dressings and press hard on the wound
- Apply a tourniquet extremely tightly
The film “A Perfect Stranger” is a powerful reminder that at a moment’s notice, any one of us might find ourselves in a situation where we are the help until help arrives. The film calls on all Americans to remake what it means to be a bystander.
